Radiation therapy is a very common treatment for many forms of cancer. When a patient’s life is on the line, this type of treatment is often the only source of hope in terms of recovery. As a result, the side effects that it can cause are generally tolerated; after all, the radiation is working against the cancer that’s inside the body. One side effect that can be especially troubling to cancer patients involves the skin. All too often, patients experience scarring, pigmentation, rash, redness and other issues. Lately, many cancer patients have been turning to all-natural, unrefined Shea butter for relief.

No one would ever try to claim that Shea butter cures cancer or eliminates the side effects of cancer radiation therapy. However, it can help to alleviate some of the most unpleasant side effects in a dramatic way. For one thing, pure, natural Shea butter provides relief that can be felt almost immediately. The soothing sensation of smoothing organic Shea butter over the skin can be extremely therapeutic. Sometimes, simple measures like these can make a world of different to somebody who is bravely battling cancer.

Unfortunately, many people are misinformed about Shea butter; as a consequence, they end up buying and using refined, processed Shea butter. This type of Shea butter has been leeched of many of its prime benefits, especially those that can help with radiation side effects. Patients who would like to try using Shea butter to help with their radiation therapy side effects need to insist on pure, 100% natural, unrefined Shea. This produce is derived from the white kernel that is found inside the nut of the karite, or Shea, tree. When unrefined, it provides many amazing benefits.

When it comes to getting through radiation therapy, every little bit of assistance is invaluable. Shea butter has been shown to provide exceptional anti-aging, healing and moisturizing properties – as long as it is used in its unrefined state. Fortunately, it’s becoming easier and easier to find and purchase pure, natural Shea butter. Those who are going through radiation treatments are well advised to purchase their own supplies and to put them to use. The vitamins and fatty acids that are found in unrefined Shea butter can work wonders on the unpleasant side effects of radiation treatments; in turn, a cancer patient’s recovery may go a lot more smoothly.

Oprah Winfrey, the most famous U.S talk show host, must be commended for her remarkable contribution to the African culture. Her interest and work in Africa is a shining example of how this wonderful woman of class and etiquette uses her hard earned wealth and influence to extend a hand of generosity not only to the American world around her but to a world distant from her that she holds dear. Oprah has always expressed an interest in Africa and when the opportunity came for her to connect with her roots, Oprah did so with dignity.

*

She has established one of the most well-equipped schools for girls in South Africa, to nurture, educate and turn gifted South African girls from impoverished backgrounds into the country’s future leaders. What is also fascinating is that Oprah has a hands-on in the school’s administration. She is always up to date with what is happening on the ground and request constant reports from staff as to the status of her students. The recent defamation case filed by the former headmistress of her girls school against her, for simple comments she made about her, can only be viewed as a futile attempt to embarrass a woman whose kindness and generosity can only be matched by her fortitude. Oprah has a distinguished and impeccable background and may not even need any defence to exonerate her.

*

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was created to support the development of a new generation of women leaders in South Africa. Oprah’s aim is to empower young girls who by virtue of their education and leadership will positively transform themselves, their communities and the larger world around them. It is interesting to note that the Academy provides a rigorous and supportive educational environment for academically talented girls who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

*

This fine contribution by Oprah to the development and education of young girls in Africa will indeed leave a legacy of her compassion and humanitarian desire to make the world a better place for humanity. Young South African girls should have little difficulty looking elsewhere for a role model to define their future aspirations and dreams on. Oprah Winfrey is a classical example of the American dream and there is absolutely nothing wrong in having an African dream. We at Back to Africa Imports applaud Oprah Winfrey for her giving spirit.

Now, Shea butter has amazed us again. Not only is Shea butter and excellent source for your skin, it can be used from head to toe in various ways.

Hair pomade (frizzy hair)

Shea butter can be used as a cosmetic remover.

Shea butter can be used as a natural lubricant to enhance intimacy.

Shea butter can be used in a warm bath for therapeutic comfort.

Shea butter prolongs skin elasticity, delays the development of wrinkles and sunspots and creates a natural barrier against air pollutants, dirt and oil.

Shea butter can be used to cure dry, cracked feet.

Massage Shea butter into dry cuticles and hands before you go to bed.

Only our pure, unrefined Shea butter has the true healing and moisturizing properties of Shea butter. Most Shea butter available to the general public outside West Africa is white and odorless, in other words it has been “refined” to remove the natural scent and color of natural Shea butter. In the process, the majority of the effective agents are also removed. Our unrefined Shea butter gives you the best results.

In Africa, masks can be traced back to well past Paleolithic times. African masks are considered amongst the finest creations in the art world and are highly sought after by art collectors. These art objects were, and are still made of various materials, including leather, metal, fabric and various types of wood. Many of the pieces, often replicas, can be viewed in museums and art galleries in many parts of the world.

*

Masking ceremonies in Africa have great cultural and traditional significance. Latest developments and understanding of Aesthetic principles, religious and ceremonial values, have brought about a greater insight into the ideas and moral values that African artists express in their art. During celebrations, initiations, crop harvesting, war preparation, peace and trouble times, African masks are worn by a chosen or initiated dancer. It can be worn in three different ways: vertically covering the face, as helmets, encasing the entire head, and as crest, resting upon the head, which was commonly covered by material as part of the disguise.

*

African masks often represent a spirit and it is strongly believed that the spirit of the ancestors possesses the wearer. Ritual ceremonies generally depict deities, spirits of ancestors, mythological beings, good and or evil, the dead, animal spirits, and other beings believed to have power over humanity. Masks of human ancestors or totem ancestors are often objects of family pride; when they are regarded as the dwelling of the spirit they represent, the masks may be honored with ceremonies and gifts.

*

During the mask ceremony the dancer goes into deep trance, and during this state of mind he communicates with his ancestors. A wise man or translator sometimes accompanies the wearer of the mask during the ritual. The dancer brings forth messages of wisdom and knowledge from his ancestors. Often the messages are grunted and the translator will accurately state the meaning of the message. Rituals and ceremonies are always accompanied with song, dance and music, played with traditional African musical instruments.

*

For thousands of years, rituals and ceremonies were and still are integral parts of African life. The gradual, effects of parceled out territories to Colonial governments, and the constant damage to traditional economies followed by the removal of huge quantities of people, by colonialism, resulted in economies and food production systems being wrecked. In general the large number of people have lost some of its tribal identity and culture, hence masking ceremonies are no longer common in Africa.

Thanks to the comfort, lightness, and size, Dashikis and Kaftans have never went out of style in Africa. The garment’s fabric is much more comfortable in the harsh African climate. In addition, the Dashikis and Kaftans are loose-fittin and long, helping to fir every body frame.

Although Dashikis and Kaftans are more common in West Africa, the Kwanzaa season brings out the African heritage in many Americans. Kwanzaa is celebrated in December, mostly by African Americans in America. No matter where you go around this time, Dashikis and Kaftans are worn.

Back to Africa sells a wide range of these garments in trendy colors for our modern day African Americans. They also come in different vibrant colors, ranging from $6.00 to $11.00.
